Member for South Metropolitan Region
Sue Ellery has been a member of the Legislative Council since 2001 as the Member for South Metropolitan.
She has been the Parliamentary Secretary to the Attorney General, Minister for Health and Electoral Affairs, Jim McGinty.
Sue joined the Australian Labor Party at the University of Western Australia in 1982. She was Guild Women's Officer and National Women's Officer of then Australian Union of Students from 1983-84.
After completing a Bachelor of Arts from UWA, Sue worked in community groups and a range of unions for 12 years prior to her election to Parliament.
She has an interest in health, childcare and aged care following her work as an Industrial Officer at the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers' Union.
Sue has represented the Minister for Health on the Ministerial Council on Drug Strategy; the Australian and NZ Food Regulation Council; the Cabinet Standing Committee on Social Policy; the Ministerial Council on Health, Environment and Industry Sustainability; and the Cabinet Standing Committee on Water Policy.
In 2002, Sue chaired a review of the Disability Services Act and was Chair of the Supported Accommodation Program State Advisory Committee. She has been a member of the Select Committee into Foster Care and a member of the Parliamentary Services Committee.
