Bill recognises that the next few years are shaping to be a crucial time for the West Australian environment and community. Some of the key priorities for the Minister in these portfolios are:
- The protection of the Kimberley and the subsequent creation of four new marine parks to protect the region's biodiversity;
- Continuing work on the landmark Kimberley Science and Conversation Strategy;
- Protecting our native forests and national parks through developing effective management plans;
- Protecting the health of the Swan River;
- Increasing rates of recycling and exploring more effective long-term waste management strategies;
- Continuing to drive reform of the State Government's development assessment processes across government, to ensure it is consistent, efficient and maintains the highest environmental standards;
- Modernising the legislation under which environment and water is currently managed; and
- Investigating options for long-term water supply for WA and promoting competition in water services.
Bill is a trained engineer and former Senior State Government Executive with a successful track record of negotiating and liaising, in particular, with industry, State and Commonwealth Departments and Ministers, peak bodies, minority groups, the community, and individuals on a broad range of issues.
