Donna Faragher was sworn in as the Minister for Environment and Youth in the Liberal/National government on 23 September 2008, becoming the youngest female Minister ever appointed in Western Australia. This followed her election for a second term to represent the East Metropolitan Region in the Legislative Council.
Mrs Faragher was elected to the thirty-seventh Parliament on 26 February 2005, with her term commencing on 22 May 2005. She is the youngest Liberal woman to be elected to the Parliament of Western Australia.
Donna Faragher was the Shadow Minister for Disability Services and Youth (January 2008 – September 2008). Prior to this she was the Shadow Spokesperson for Youth and Drug Abuse Strategy (February 2006 – January 2008) and on commencement of her term in Parliament was Shadow Spokesperson for Youth (May 2005 – February 2006). She was also a member of the Legislative Council Standing Committee on Uniform Legislation and Statutes Review.
Prior to entering Parliament, Mrs Faragher was a policy and parliamentary adviser to the former Federal Minister for Justice and Customs. She also was a policy adviser and research officer in previous ministries of Special Minister of State and Minister for Schools, Vocational Education and Training.
As Environment Minister Mrs Faragher is committed to maintaining and enhancing Western Australia’s unique environment for current and future generations. As Youth Minister she is also committed to promoting the great things young Western Australians do for their communities as well as tackling key areas such as illicit drug abuse and mental health issues.
Donna is a graduate of the University of Western Australia with a Master of Education with Honours and has completed a Graduate Diploma in Education in the areas of school psychology and teaching and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology.
She attended Guildford Grammar Preparatory School and Perth College in Mt Lawley.
Outside of her current portfolios, her interests include issues surrounding education, drug abuse strategy and disability services. Mrs Faragher is a Patron of the Fairholme Disability Support Group.
Minister Faragher is married and her recreational interests include cooking, football, rugby and music.
