Water Minister Graham Jacobs got a close up look at local industry involvement in the major Southern Seawater Desalination Project when he visited the construction site near Binningup recently. Work on the site began a little over a month ago. Dr Jacobs observed the frenetic activity of more than a dozen massive earthmoving machines which are spearheading site works for the building phase that will involve at least 500 workers at peak times over the next 24 months. Local industry is already heavily involved in the project with earthmoving machines criss-crossing the site coming from a sub-contract company based at nearby Brunswick Junction, with their drivers and support people living throughout the area, including some at Binningup.
