Biography

In 2005 John Castrilli was elected to the Western Australia Legislative Assembly as the Member for Bunbury; he was subsequently re-elected in September 2008 by an increased margin.

John’s professional background includes qualifications in accounting. He has been a Director of a Bunbury finance firm, and has extensive experience in banking and trade facilitation. He has previously worked in the accounting departments for a range of industries including the media, banking, transport, local and state government. Furthermore, he has been a Commissioner of the Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission.

Prior to his election to Parliament, John gained extensive experience in Local Government where he spent six years as a Councillor, before spending eight years as the Mayor of the City of Bunbury.  John’s work at the coalface of local government has equipped him to tackle the challenges facing the Local Government sector in Western Australia.

As a result of the 2008 election of the Liberal National Government, John was appointed as the Minister for Local Government; Heritage; Citizenship and Multicultural Interests.

On a personal level John is a committed family man.
