| Premier Colin Barnett and Training Minister Peter Collier announced the creation of the Department of Training and Workforce Development, to ensure a more focussed delivery of both education and training services to the Western Australian community. The new department will help increase the skill and competitiveness of WA's workforce and address emerging skill gaps as the economy grows. |

| The State Government has conditionally agreed to build stage one of a major transmission line in the Mid-West, from Pinjar to Eneabba. This follows a formal review of the 330kV power line, also referred to as the North Country Reinforcement Project, which extends from Pinjar to Moonyoonooka (near Geraldton), after the initial cost estimates more than doubled - from $300million to $689million. |
