Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman has expressed disappointment at the Federal Government's decision to suspend all live cattle exports to Indonesia. Mr Redman said the decision will severely impact on businesses, employees and families in Western Australia's cattle industry. He said it was particularly disappointing that there had been little consultation by the Federal Government with relevant State Ministers. Australia is the only country likely to make the investment necessary to partner with Indonesian businesses to lift welfare standards. Because we're a major supplier of livestock to Indonesia we can use our influence to make positive changes. Minister Redman responds to questions from the media about the live cattle export ban and the issue of Kronic in WA prisons. [ Note: Full screen quality video ] |

Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman officially opened a new national pilot malting facility in Perth which will help sell Australian barley to overseas customers. Mr Redman said the $500,000 state-of-the-art facility, co-located at Edith Cowan University's (ECU) Malting and Brewing Research and Education Facility in Joondalup, was the first of its kind in Australia. "Western Australian agriculture is very export focused, and it's critical that we supply our overseas customers what they want," he said. "This new national pilot malting facility will help barley growers achieve that by improving the performance of Australia's malting varieties and tailoring them to international demands." The Minister said another major challenge for barley growers was convincing customers to try new varieties. [ Note: Full screen quality video ] |
