Biography

Born in Bunbury, Troy Buswell grew up in Busselton and attended the local high school where he graduated as Head Boy in 1983.

He completed a Bachelor of Economics degree at The University of Western Australia, winning the WG Salter Memorial Prize in Economics for the highest aggregate of marks in the final year.

After working at IBM and Murdoch University, Troy and his wife Margaret returned to Busselton to take over a local small business Villa Carlotta Travel.

Under his guidance, the business grew into an integrated tourism enterprise incorporating a Busselton accommodation venue, a tour coach line based in Perth and a highly successful tour and travel wholesale/retail operation.

Whilst building his own business, Troy also worked as chairperson of the Cape Naturaliste Tourism Association and represented his community as a councillor with the Shire of Busselton for six years, the last two as Shire President.

Troy entered politics driven by a great deal of passion for the family unit, a fierce belief in free enterprise, free market economics, the protection of individual liberties, the defence of private property rights and a strong desire to help the people of Western Australia achieve the things to which they aspire.

Troy Buswell has a strong financial background and understanding of taxation policy and its effects on all Western Australians. He has taken on the role of Treasurer with enthusiasm and a determination to offer West Australians effective and fair taxation and financial policies.

Winning government has provided the opportunity for him to also oversee the Commerce; Housing; Works; and Science and Innovation portfolios.

Troy Buswell brings to government in Western Australia a combination of energy, experience, expertise and youth and the ability to exercise strong and cohesive management of the State’s finances.

He has shown himself to be a competent and forceful minister with a capacity to develop and implement sound policies across the breadth of his portfolio of responsibilities.
