A safer place to live

Community safety is a priority for the State Government. We have introduced tougher penalties and smarter policing to create safer communities, and we are committed to protecting our future by protecting our children.

Since 2001 we have recruited an extra 420 police officers, with an additional 90 to be recruited this financial year.

We have invested more than $50m on building 14 new police stations around the state and construction will begin on the new $93million state-of-the-art Perth Police Complex in Northbridge.

Since 2001, home burglaries and car thefts have fallen dramatically. We’re backing our officers with new technology like DNA and the nation’s toughest laws to target organised crime.

We delivered new ‘anti-hoon’ laws to crack down on reckless and dangerous drivers, and continue to strengthen and extend this legislation during our second term.

Our Parent Support initiative has also been strengthened with the introduction of new parental responsibility legislation.

The State Government also introduced a curfew to get kids off the streets of Northbridge after dark, and introduced tougher child protection laws that place the safety of our kids first.

While there is more to be done, we are making WA a safer place to live.
