In The Regions
Regional Western Australia plays a vital role in our economic and social development.
The State Government is completely rebuilding the social, economic and cultural infrastructure of our state and the most obvious signs of the investment levels are in the regions.
Our capital works program is breathtaking.
We have a massive $1billion construction program over four years, to deliver a world-class education system – providing the best facilities for students around the state.
Many of our regional hospitals have either been rebuilt or undergone major refurbishments and we are working hard to attract more nurses and doctors to regional areas.
We are better connecting our regions with major road works including the Perth to Bunbury Highway, the Geraldton Southern Transport Corridor, Indian Ocean Drive, the Karratha to Tom Price Road and the Albany Ring Road under construction.
And we are focussing on important developments to improve our way of life.
Developments such as the Geraldton Foreshore Project, the Albany Waterfront Project, which will include a new entertainment complex; and the Outer Harbour Project in Bunbury are all underway.
These are real and substantial acknowledgements of our commitment to regional Western Australia.
Regional Cabinet
The State Government listens to the regions.
To keep Ministers in touch with the broader community, the Government holds Cabinet meetings in the regions on a regular basis.
These meetings are usually held over a two-day period and include a range of community functions to give as many people as possible the chance to meet with Ministers either individually or as a group.
Ministers also take the opportunity to meet with the staff of their various departments and to visit community or business groups associated with their portfolios.
