Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Finance; Small Business
Sean L'Estrange is the Minister for Mining and Petroleum and the Minister for Small Business in the Liberal-National Government of Western Australia. He was elected to Parliament for the Legislative Assembly seat of Churchlands in March 2013 and appointed to Cabinet in March 2016. He is committed to innovation and enterprise underpinning a strong resources and small business sector.
Sean was born in Perth, Western Australia, in 1967 and educated at Aquinas College. He holds a Masters Degree of Educational Leadership, a Graduate Diploma of Resource Management, and a Graduate Diploma of Management. He is also a graduate of the Australian Command and Staff College (Canberra).
For six years prior to entering parliament Sean established and operated a successful leadership and management consulting business in Perth. He also has extensive experience in the Australian Defence Force as an Infantry Army Officer. He completed Active Service, as a Lieutenant Colonel, with the Australian Battle Group in Afghanistan and he continues to serve as a Colonel in the Army Reserve. Sean has also been a senior school Economics teacher and head of an academic department.
Sean views his working life to date as working with communities to help solve problems and improve efficiencies, and to help individuals, teams and organisations to reach their potential.
